Subprime Mess

December 13th, 2007

All the news we have observed regarding the “Sub prime Mess” lays blame accurately but omits the responsibility of the Federal Reserve to stabilize the skyrocketing mortgage loan acceptance rate as well as liberalized application rules. Watch for more brokerage and global exposure to rolling risk.

In our opinion, the next targets legislators need to examine and control are the credit card, banking and “cash advance” abuses to consumers/borrowers. Does anybody remember “Usury Laws”? Can you explain the logic in their apparent circumvention?

Every new road laid in Whitehouse entails continuous future maintenance cost. At present, is there an escrow required at the time of new development? Would you think such an escrow, at an appropriate level would be a good idea?

Why is there no credit given on the trash tax for people who recycle?

According to the Lucas County Auditor, Whitehouse has the lowest rate of real estate taxes of the 26 taxing entities in the county. What part do you think this plays in the financial condition the village faces?

If you don’t have a refuse charge and return the tax credit to the citizens working outside Whitehouse, how do you plan on creating revenue to run the Village?

Is there anything you do in your every day life that might be taken as a conflict of interest if you are elected or reelected to council?

What areas specifically/geographically would you target for new C-2 or commercial growth?

The village’s sewer fund balance is currently $260,000. Current plans call for major sewer main construction before Dec. 1, 2008 totaling $290,000. Does the village need a capital surcharge fee or a sewer rate increase?

Many communities across the country have used cultural arts and the local “quality of life” to attract creative new businesses. Give a specific example of how you would promote either the cultural arts or “quality of life” in Whitehouse?

Many are concerned that the village’s perceived budgetary problems might be solved by cutting employee compensation. What are your views on this issue?

At present tax revenues are split 50/50 with 50% going to the general fund and 50% going to capitol improvements. Do you feel it should remain as is or do you feel it should be changed with a greater percentage going to the general fund to improve services to current Whitehouse residents?
